POSTPONED

100 Front St, Brownsville Pennsylvania, 15417 USA

Join us for a unique experience at one of Pennsylvania's most haunted places: Nemacolin Castle (Pronounced "Nem-Ah-Cole-In"). Explore this darkened, 22 room mansion until the wee hours of the morning with fellow ghost hunters and in the company of none other than Ghost Hunters cast member Kristyn Gartland herself!

Whats the history of the castle?

How old is it?
Nemacolin Castle has a documented but mysterious history, especially when it comes to when it was built. Its difficult to tell the age of the actual construction of the castle itself because it was built in many different stages and time frames.

The earliest known portion of the castle ("The sitting room") was thought to have been built in 1787, making it 221 years old as of 2008. While the original construction of the castle itself was started by a man named Jacob Bowman, the property (and even the castle itself) has a much older origin.

During the French and Indian War, Colonel Burd constructed a fort on the now Nemacolin Castle property. It is widely agreed that the oldest part of Namecolin Castle is part of the original Fort, that stood long before the castle.

c1858, the remainder of the castle was built. The bowman family continues to live within the castle walls for many years until the castle was turned into a museum in 1959. Today it is managed by the Brownsville Historical Society.

Kristyn is the Case Manager for The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) and is also a regular cast member of the SciFi television show "Ghost Hunters". She joins us on a hunt through the darkened halls of Pennsylvania's most haunted castle!

Haunted History

Overview
According to one modern web site, Nemacolin Castle has several ghosts within its walls. It is said that up to 10 spirits may wander the darkened rooms and corridoors of the estate. Now, while there is only but a couple documented deaths within the castle itself, there still seems to be some legitimacy to the rumors of many ghosts.

The maid
According to reports, one of the maids who served the Bowman Family, fell to her death in the main staircase of the castle. This is apparently a well documented accident as well. Visitors over the past years have reported seeing a ghostly woman in period clothing, ascending the stairs, only to vanish into thin air.

The Underground Railroad

Soem of the more prominent features of the castle, are the various hidden rooms, nooks and crannies tucked away inside. It is rumored that the castle was a station along the Underground Railroad. This may or may not be true but it is historically documented that the Bowman family had strong family ties to a well known abolutionist.

There are accounts of encounters with the ghosts of "slaves" in both of the castles separate basements (referred to as dungeons). Psychics visiting the castle have described such figures, presumably without knowing the historical ties to the Underground Railroad.

The nursery

On the second floor of the castle, there is a room situated and known to be the castles nursery. It is connected to the master bedroom and is noted to be one of the most haunted places in all of the castle. Visitors report strange occurances with toys the move and dolls that blink their eyes. One such report tells of a ghostly bassenette, that rocks while no one is near it.Could it be the doing of a vintage Ouija board that decorates the room? Maybe you should ask the lady in white that is spotted entering the room at times!
